In 1837, a young German named Johann Georg Kohl embarked on a journey through Upper Canada. His goal was to learn about the region's history, culture, and people. Kohl's travels took him from Toronto to Niagara Falls, from Kingston to London. He visited farms, villages, and towns, and he met with people from all walks of life.

Kohl's account of his travels, published in 1842, is a fascinating read. It provides a unique perspective on Upper Canada in the 1830s. Kohl was a keen observer, and he provides detailed descriptions of the people, places, and events he encountered.

Kohl's journey began in Toronto, then known as York. He was impressed by the city's rapidly growing population and its bustling streets. He visited the Parliament Buildings and the University of Toronto, and he met with some of the city's leading citizens.

From Toronto, Kohl traveled to Niagara Falls. He was awestruck by the power and beauty of the falls, and he spent several days exploring the area. He visited Goat Island, Luna Island, and Table Rock, and he took a boat ride to the base of the falls.

After Niagara Falls, Kohl traveled to Kingston. He visited the Royal Military College and the Kingston Penitentiary, and he met with Sir John Colborne, the Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada. Kohl was impressed by Kingston's military and strategic importance, and he believed that it would one day become a major city.

From Kingston, Kohl traveled to London. He visited the Bishop's Palace and the Huron College, and he met with some of the city's leading businessmen. Kohl was impressed by London's rapid growth and its prosperous economy.

Kohl's journey through Upper Canada ended in Toronto. He had traveled over 1,000 miles, and he had met with people from all walks of life. He had learned a great deal about the region's history, culture, and people, and he had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the land.

Kohl's account of his travels is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Upper Canada. It provides a unique perspective on the region at a time of great change and growth.
